Indonesia to host the organization of 2010 Global Peace Festival (GPF) for the Asia Pasific region, in Jakarta, 15-17 October 2010. With the theme “Creating a World of Lasting Peace Transcending Differences”, the international conference has a purpose to call for world peace. Indonesia is relevant to be a host of such peace conference because its Pancasila, the citizens are plural from every aspect, and loves peace.
In that festival, there will be 400 religious figures from domestic and foreign who will discuss the effort to create world peace and maintain the confidence of each other. In the festival, there will also be many activities to strengthen family and marriage institution as “School of Love” and social work involving thousands of youngsters in several cities in Indonesia. The purpose of this activity is to gather young generations in helping the improvement of social life.
The top event of the festival will be organized in Bung Karno Stadium on 17 October. It will present the peace messages of from several figures, art and culture from regions in Indonesia and a number of ASEAN countries. Beside Indonesia, 2010 GPF will also be organized in Kenya, for African region, Paraguay for American and European region, and Nepal for East and South Asia.
In Indonesia, 2010 GPF collaborates with Nahdlatul Ulama to organize the event In the press conference, there are several Nahdlatul Ulama’s top brass among others Sinta Nuriyah, the wife of late Indonesian former President, Abdurrahman Wahid, Marsudi Syuhud, the Head of Indonesian Conference on Religion and Peace (ICRP) Siti Musdah Mulia, and representative of GPF Kenya, Markandey Ray, GPF Malaysia Teh Su Thye, GPF Goodwill Ambassador Indonesia, Harvey Malaiholo, Mike Mohede, and Maudy Kusnaedi.
